Do You Know The Invention Process Of The Pipette? Today We Will Introduce Its Principle

2025-02-08

The pipette first appeared in 1956, invented by scientist Schnitger from the German Institute of Biochemistry. In 1958, the German company Eppendorf began producing button type micro samplers and became a company that produces micro samplers. These micro samplers are suitable for use in clinical routine chemistry laboratories.

Early pipettes

With the development of micropipettes today, sample addition is more precise and there are various varieties. There are two physical principles for sample addition: ① using an air cushion (also known as a piston stroke) for sample addition; ② Use a piston without an air cushion to move forward and add samples. Micro pipettes with different principles have their specific application ranges.

The piston stroke (air cushion) sampler can be conveniently used for adding fixed or adjustable volume liquids, with a sample volume range of less than 1ul to 10ml. The disposable suction head is an important component of this sampling system, and its shape, material properties, and degree of conformity with the sampler all have a significant impact on the accuracy of sampling.

The piston moving sampler can be used for liquids with high vapor pressure, high viscosity, and a density greater than 2.0g/cm3 that are prone to producing aerosols. The suction head of the piston moving sampler is generally produced by the manufacturer and cannot use the usual suction head or suction heads from different manufacturers.

The principles of multi-channel sampler, electronic sampler, and distributor are the same as described above. Multi channel samplers typically have 8 or 12 channels, consistent with 8X12=96 well microplates. The use of multi-channel samplers can not only reduce the number of sample addition operations for experimental operators, but also improve the precision of sample addition. The electronic sampler and distributor are semi-automatic sampling systems, and the electronic sampler has high repeatability and a wide range of applications.

Pipette is a commonly used tool by every inspector. For young people who have just started working, it is necessary to understand the correct operation method of pipette in order to better carry out their work.
